SHE

This exhibition was quite an exciting opportunity for me as I was contacted by the curator Colette Liley.

I knew Colette from living in Liverpool, as we shared studio space. Since then, Liley has moved to an all-female student space, and this exhibition reflected that and the connections she has felt with female artists.

SHE highlighted work by female artists that represent women. The display is at Bridewell Studios: an old police station. There was something rather poignant about having a show about the female experience in an old police station, especially in the context of the met police and the rape and silencing of women.

The private view was very popular, and only served white wine – red would have been a threat to the work.

The painting Jamima had been placed on the wall with half of her arm on the bend of the wall: the work became sculptural. It created an exciting dialogue with the painting Katie and connections to other paintings around the room.

This exhibition felt particularly unique as the show's ethos aligned with mine; being part of an exhibition highlighting the female experience from a woman's perspective was fantastic.
